October was a crazy month with Halloween, parties and my general return to field operations at work. While I vow to never again shoot a whole days worth of footage like that I enjoyed myself immensely.

Cosplay Shoot Kakaako Waterfront 9-15-07: Added 9-29-07
Though hastily reorganized due to scheduling conflicts and issues with Kapolei Park the shoot went well. Weather was horrible though and I was worried folks costumes would be ruined. Good showing from Sakura and Twilight as well as Sakis in her prince of tennis cosplay.

Macro Testing Chinese Tea Bonsai: Added 9-11-07
Felt the need to start branching out (ok no tree puns seriously). Picked up a small bonsai and wanted to use it to practice macro shooting in a simple white shooting box. The results for this test were pretty crappy to me. I was lazy and didn't put on my contacts so even w/the dioptropic adjustment the focus points were too soft. Though the fuzzy flowers were definitely interesting.

Pirate/Lolita GT (Guest Photogs) Kaka'ako Park 8-12-07: Added 8-12-07
Kari from the Kawaii Kon forums organized a pirate and lolita themed get together and opened it up to the general cosplaying community. Since I was feeling rather rusty myself, along with several of the 808photos group members attended. The potluck turned out huge with a lot more food than I think anybody really expected.

Though I didn't get the volume of shots I was really hoping I did get a few good angles.

Cosplay Photoshoot 7-8-07 (Closed Shoot) Bleach: Added 7-8-07
Organized by Zarli, this photoshoot was specific to just Bleach cosplayers. A little different from our recent indoor shoots this particular photographic outing was at the Queen Lili'oukalani Gardens on Kuakini St. Despite fairly high temps through the weekend everyone took the conditions in stride and I think we walked away with some very nice shots. Enjoy.

Cosplay Photoshoot 6-23-07: Added 6-23-07
Another fun photoshoot at the Olelo studios. The flash set up is proving very effective and hopefully as we spread the gear out more we'll be better suited to dealing with changes in conditions. I've begun looking at some other gear as well including a collapsable muslin system for textured/flat backdrops.

Now every now and then I get to just go out and shoot stuff that I enjoy. For me that includes things like cars. My limited time learning to drive at Hawaii Raceway Park had a huge influence on how I viewed racing, driving on city roads and my respect for the folks who can really drive to the limit of their machines.

A tad late but our second indoor shoot can be found at the URL below. The shoot was very enjoyable for me since we got to really make use of our flash hardware and the faciliites are nice and cool, so cosplayers aren't melting trying to do an outdoor shoot.

Equipment Testing and Photo Op (Suncoast Animania!): Added 5-20-07
So of course every guy wants to play with his new tech toys right? I'm no different. I finally picked up my Speedlite 580EX II flash, the last step I needed in order to complete my full range of slaves and master flashes. I may still need 1 last 430EX flash to balance out the exposure (with a 420 used for backlighting). This short gallery is from the Suncoast Animania sale/cosplay contest at the Pearl Ridge store.

In preparation for the Kawaii Kon photo panel we did a session of nothing but technical shots. Not really focusing on the costuming as much as we were focusing on the techniques. Since I didn't want to let the cat out of the bag, I refrained from posting these until now.

Viva Las Vegas: Added 5-15-07

Returned from a trip to visit my high school friend and former debate partner as she graduated from UNLV's Boyd School of Law. Gallery can be found here. For this particular shoot I didn't use any SLR gear, instead I used a somewhat hastily purchased Canon S3 IS prosumer type camera. Nothing fancy but the 12x optical zoom made for some easy to carry options. I'll upload more random vegas photos as time permits but for now, sleep...

Kawaii Kon 2007: Or Why Vraxx Needs more Practice Added 4-30-07
First off I'd like to thank the founders, staff and volunteers for this years convention. The venue shift, the larger area, the lower incidence of eye-welting BO... there are a vast number of improvements and all are appreciated.

Cosplay Photoshoot #5: Bling into Spring Added 4-16-07
Thanks to the efforts of demonjr (Eric) and vengeance (Mark) we secured the use of an indoor studio for this most recent shoot. Wasn't my best shoot if you ask me, I'm showing my rustiness. Cosplay Photoshoot: Jrock/Lolita/Yaoi? Added 1-13-07
So, the first cosplay photoshoot of the new year was quite nice. Smaller group, a little more managable, good weather, free parking and most of all, fun. Unfortunately work calls this weekend so I doubt I'll be posting much content. There's quite a bit of touch up work I'd also like to do so there may be considerable lag between my updates.
