Punk: Volumes 1 & 2: Updated 11-1-06 Take one smart alecky punk, give him a shotgun a penchant for boobies and a lot of sexual humor and you get Desert Punk. The series isn't going to win over critics but it will keep you laughing. Released by FUNimation here in the states the cast is moderately sized with a few interesting names appearing (Eric Vale and Luci Christian among them) Desert Punk is definitely not intended for younger audiences and as such has a TV-MA rating here in the US. Adult content aside the series is a riot. Very little plot, but a lot
of sass marks this series trademark style. Following the exploits of expert
'handyman' Kanta 'Sunabouzu Whether he is being tricked by big-busted bounty hunters, or convinced to take on a female assistant, Desert Punk reminds us of the average joe to just wants a piece of ass. If you dislike sexist humor please avoid this anime. In my book any show that includes a line like "Tits McGee" can't be all that bad. I give Desert Punk an 8/10. It ain't pretty, it isn't witty, but tell you what, it's got lots o'titty. OK that's the last time I rhyme for the closing review line, honest. Update: Completed the rest of Desert Punk and true to the sort of no-hand
holding, straight forward attitude of Punk the series ends with a fair
sense of closure. Character you love or hate may surprise you and while
the ending may turn some fans off, I think characterwise it was an appropriate
way to end the story. I still stand by the 8/10 rating but I think that
some fans will be consider the last volume a bit of a jump and may lean
more towards a 7/10 average rating. |
